Flooring & subfloor

A floor is only as good as what is under it.

Hardwood, tile, LVP and carpet across the Midlands — with subfloor repair, leveling and moisture handled first, because that is what makes flooring fail.

Why floors fail

Almost every flooring failure is a subfloor story.

Cupped hardwood, cracked grout, popping laminate seams, tile that sounds hollow — the surface is the symptom.

Cupping means moisture from below. Cracked grout and loose tile usually mean deflection or the wrong underlayment. Peaking laminate means no expansion gap. Squeaks and soft spots mean fastening or rot at the joists. Replacing the surface without fixing that means paying twice.

We check moisture in the slab or crawl space, we look for deflection and soft spots, we level where the substrate is out of tolerance, and we repair rot before anything decorative goes down. Then we install to the manufacturer's requirements so the warranty is real.

Older Midlands houses add one more step: vinyl tile and black mastic under the current floor may contain asbestos, and that has to be tested before it is disturbed. We test first and bring in a licensed abatement contractor when the result comes back positive, so demolition does not turn into a regulated cleanup.

What we install

Flooring we handle.

Hardwood

Solid and engineered installation, plus refinishing and board replacement where a repair is the smarter option.

Tile

Floor and wall tile over properly prepared substrate, with the waterproofing and movement joints that keep grout from telling on the install.

LVP and vinyl

Luxury vinyl plank and sheet vinyl, which need a flatter, drier substrate than most people expect for a product sold as forgiving.

Carpet

Carpet and pad, including replacement after a water loss where pad and tack strip had to come out.

Subfloor and leveling

Rot repair, sheathing and joist work, self-leveling underlayment and squeak correction before any finish goes down.

Hazardous material handling

Old vinyl tile and mastic in pre-1980 homes has to be tested before demolition. Where abatement is required we coordinate a licensed abatement contractor, then install after clearance.

How it runs

Substrate first, surface second.

Check what is under it

Moisture readings, deflection, soft spots, and whether the existing floor needs testing before it is disturbed.

Scope and select

Product selected against how the room is actually used, with a written price including prep instead of a surface-only number.

Prepare the substrate

Rot repair, fastening, leveling and underlayment. This is the invisible half you are actually paying for.

Install and trim out

Installed to spec with correct expansion, transitions and trim, then cleaned and walked with you.

Replacing floors after a leak, or just tired of them?

Either way we check what is underneath before quoting a surface, so the new floor is not sitting on the reason the old one failed.

Common questions

Flooring questions we get asked most.

Can you install over my existing floor?

Sometimes, but often it is a false saving — it raises height at doors and transitions and hides a substrate problem. We will tell you when it is genuinely fine.

My hardwood cupped after a leak. Can it be saved?

Sometimes, if it dried properly and the cupping relaxed. Sanding too early locks the problem in permanently. We read moisture first and tell you honestly.

Do you handle flooring replacement on an insurance claim?

Regularly. Continuous flooring and reasonable matching are common points of discussion on claims, and we document the affected area so the scope reflects the actual room.

What is the most durable option for dogs and kids?

Good LVP and porcelain tile both hold up very well. Between them it usually comes down to warmth underfoot and budget rather than durability.

Why does my tile grout keep cracking?

Usually movement — a substrate that flexes, or missing movement joints. Regrouting does not fix it. We look at the assembly instead of the grout line.
